Tue, 17 April 2007 ![]() Episode #5 There has been a big lawnmower caper in Snailwell. A dressing dilemma for a formal function almost keeps me from attending. Find out why magic knickers are key to an evening where dinner will be served. Just Clean Green-- Mama's Earth Mop, recipe adapted from Clean Home Clean Planet (available at www.greenfeet.com ) To mix up a spray bottle full fill a plant sprayer with half purified water, half white vinegar and add around 30 drops of peppermint essential oil. Spray on floor and dry mop. To use in bucket, fill bucket with warm water, add two cups or so of vinegar and about ten drops peppermint oil. Use on hands and knees if you are crazy, or with a mop if you have better things to do than clean! What's for Dinner--The magic of Polenta equal parts boiling water and cornmeal. Slowly add cornmeal to salted boiling water while whisking constantly. Cook for only a few minutes then remove from heat and add seasonings or cheese, whatever floats your boat. Tue, 10 April 2007 ![]() The Snailwell Gazette Podcast #4 -We chat with Uncle Chris about our journey to Scotland and the wedding that was our destination. -In Just Clean Green: We wonder about the exact ingredients of fabric softeners. Try my recipe, just add 20-30 drops of an essential oil to a bottle of Vinegar (use Heinz (tm) or another petroleum free brand). When you do a load of laundry fill a Downey (tm) fabric softener ball with the concoction and throw in with your wash for a soft, great smelling load of laundry. -Pick of the Week: Check out the book I mentioned, look for "Newman's Own Organics Guide to the Good Life" by Nell Newman. It is a great book with simple ways to lead a more eco-friendly life. -The next pick is the March/April issue of "Mother Jones" magazine for an all you need to know, but were afraid to ask about the Iraq war. Check it out or go to www.motherjones.com -In the Yoga Moment: We review Ahimsa; the practice of non-violence in Yoga, to the world and to ourselves. Then we practice a counted breath with an inhale through the nose of four counts and an exhale through the nose of six counts. Music from the Podsafe Music Network: Epcot USA by Dierdre Flint. Danny Monaghan, Twig Old Bush by Beyond the Pale. At the Sea by Adam Zampina and our old standby; My Brother Sylveste by The Pubcrawlers. Thanks for listening! Tue, 3 April 2007 ![]() Welcome to episode #3! In this episode we get to know "Gosia" in an interview in a local coffee shop. We also talk quite a bit about Veri Veri Teriyaki sauce from the Soy Vay company. Their website is www.soyvay.com . If you want to make the tofu I was salivating over in the show, just cube up some firm/extra firm tofu. Coat with Veri Veri and spread evenly in a lasagne dish. Bake at about 350 for an hour or so, tossing every so often. You may need to bake a little longer to get a good chewey consistency. We also relaxed your face, listen repeatedly as needed! The pick of the week was Knitting for Peace by Betty Christianson. to get your knitting up to par I recommended Stitch and Bitch by Debbie Stoller of Bust magazine royalty. We just cleaned green using Merlin's Magic. The recipe is adapted from Clean house Clean Planet available at www.greenfeet.com and don't forget to check out the official greenfeet podcast "More Hip Than Hippie". To make Merlin's Magic take a plant sprayer and fill it almost all the way to the fill line with purified water. Squirt in six tablespoon sized squirts of liquid soap. I recommend Dr. Bronner's magic soap www.drbronner.com . Then add about 60 drops of tea tree oil. You can use this magic solution to clean just about anything! I even use it on laundry as a pre-treater (not that my laundry ever has any stains!) Try it, it works and you can even wash your kid's hands with it. Our song of the week was "My Brother Sylveste" by the pubcrawlers. Thanks to podsafe audio. Thanks also go out to Paul, Gosia, Jane and Grace. We're off to the wedding! Cheers, Elizabeth www.snailwellgazette.com (to subscribe to the 'zine) Comments[0] |
